Outcome 3 – 160 young people and adults will have access to volunteer opportunities.
To date 140 young people and adults have engaged in voluntary work with over 2,600 voluntary hrs provided to local businesses and the wider community. Placements have included Business Administration in Redcar and Cleveland Council, Outreach Youth Work with Safe in Tees Valley, Social Care at a local elderly persons residential home, retail at a number of local charity shops across the borough, hairdressing at a local hair salon, providing support to helping hands an elderly support project, offering volunteer time to support victims of Domestic Violence and providing support to a local Church Charity. In addition, volunteers have painted and decorated a local community house and community centre, have improved two allotments, improved three derelict areas of land, improved gardens, removed graffiti from a number of shopping areas, supported three In Bloom Competitions and carried out interviews outside local shops, schools and door to door as part of a community research project on behalf Redcar and Cleveland Council’s Neighbourhood Planning.
We envisaged a higher numbers of beneficiaries would access volunteer opportunities due to the number of beneficiaries who participated in the Wheel community environmental project, taxi badge scheme and the young people from pathways. None of these groups have been asked to attend twelve weeks learning but did have to carry out some voluntary work. We are currently supporting eight new learners on our core programme in quarter three and another two taxi drivers. We expect to achieve our planned milestones by the end of our project.
